If the electoral college ever had a valid use, then that validity ended with the invention of long-distance communications. This is a good video explaining why it made some sense when the US Constitution was being written, but not today.

Would you call a country where as low as 22% of “special class” voters can determine presidential leadership a democracy? What about as low as 17% of these “special” voters electing a leader who is basically the loser in a three-way race?
